Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I had dinner here on a Thursday evening and the wait was approximately one hour as there were two large parties before us. The wait was worth it as the food was very good and the poi dog pizza was awesome. Definitely recommend.

Was starving so I was really looking to eat ANYWHERE once we found parking along the busy Alii Drive. The place was EMPTY so we were a little hesitant to stop in... but we definitely were not disappointed. Service was prompt (as I hoped it would be on an empty day). Opted to get a small Poi pizza to share with my bf. It was good... not AMAZING... but hit the spot. Prices were a little up there, but that's Hawaii for you... I wouldn't have expected any less. The lady who served us (maybe even the owner) was very nice and made us feel very welcome.

Delicious! Relaxed and fun atmosphere and good service too.

Great pizza fun time

Couldn't find a lot to do or eat during our vacation but Gem found this little spot while strolling around with Logan. You can't really see it - unless you're across the street and decide to look up. The place was fairy empty when we got it - just one party taking up the middle of the restaurant. I like the open space but the place could use some new furniture - or just furniture in general. We ordered a salad and a pizza and then sat around for it to come out. The food comes out pretty slow but there didn't seem like a lot of people actually working so not a big deal. The antipasto salad was really good and the pizza was even better. I felt like it was one of the better meals I had while I was over here. I would definitely come back to eat here again the next time I'm back on the island. The place is BYOB too.

The crust had a nice consistency to it, wasn't over cheesy or saucy but it was too conservative. Nothing special. It's a great place if you are looking for a quick, basic pizza but if you really want a PIZZA, wouldn't be my first choice.

*Cash Only *BYOB On a weekday evening, we found a sleepy 2nd floor pizza joint, with apparently one lady running the show. Relatively short menu keeps the ordering simple. We ordered the Kilauea pizza ala carte since they ran out of salads. Plenty of room for big groups, and has a view of Ali'i blvd.

Great pizza! Had a pepperoni and a 5-0 (pineapple, ham, red onion and crushed macadamia nuts). Both were super yummy. The crust is thin and cooked to perfection. No delivery and tricky to find the place-- up the stairs with the Thai restaurant and no signage on the street. Great local pizza. Would def recommend.
(4)C M.
First item to know is that the restaurant is next to a Thai restaurant and is on the second floor street side. The sign for the Thai restaurant is quite large while the sign for this pizza place is quite small. The pizza was good but the service was very slow, so plan some time if you choose to eat here.

This place was delicious it was hard to find but once I found it I was extremely satisfied with my pizza. The pizza was so good I woke up in the middle of the night to eat my leftovers lol. FYI the place is byob so if your feeling a bit thirsty you can bring your own beer, wine, etc. If I lived close by I would definitely use my cheat day to eat here once a week!
(5)Greg W.
Second time eating here and it was just as amazing as the first!!! Emma the hostess is a sweetheart and the service was outstanding again! Yes they do have the square reader now, but be sure to ask first.
(5)John M.
Sounded so nice went at 8pm with 4 friends not a person in the place. I mean no staff and said open. Horrible, waited 10 minutes no one. Even rang the delivery bell. What a shame but maybe new owners but definitely don't want business. I'm going back to take the small canoe! Ate across the street and then had to check back and still not one person in the place but big open sign. The owner should know why his sales were down tonight!

Mahina Pizza makes great pizza at a fair island price! Service is laid back (not slow) and the vibe is welcoming. The owner is friendly and outgoing and the people watching from the counter is excellent. We stop at Mahina Pizza whenever in Kailua!
(5)Matt P.
Great pizza, super cool owner (or manager?) she was really nice and extremely helpful and accommodating, very nice atmosphere. Byob and i recommend getting half pie of one thing and half pie another, to experience all the tasty flavors of this great pizza joint.
(4)Rich H.
We've tried pretty much every pizza joint in Kona and this is our fave! The homemade crust is great and the house salad dressing is one of the best I've had. FYI - the sign says cash only but when the owner is there (pretty much all the time during the week) she will take your credit card.
(5)T S.
So glad we found this place. Google maps took us on a 2 mile detour and we had given up on finding the place but on the way back into town I spotted the sign from one of the photos on yelp. The pizza was perfection and the prices were reasonable. The crust was nice and crisp without being oily. I had the Green Flash which had sun dried tomatoes, feta, spinach, capers, and mozzarella. My hubby had a spicy pizza not sure what it was called and they were happy to make it without cheese. We had the place to ourselves at 4pm on a Wed. The waiter was quick and very friendly. We spent a while chatting with him about things to do on the island since this was our first time visiting. Would definitely go here again!
(5)Katy H.
Wow. Far better than I expected for a tourist area! Tasty crust, perfect thickness and crispness. The Hibachi, a BBQ chicken pizza, was the perfect mix of salty, smokey and sweet and the pepperoni had a nice balance of cheese and toppings. If you're looking for really good pizza, and a nice atmosphere, definitely try Mahina.
(5)Beatriz M.
Had to ask a couple of people how to get here but it was absolutely worth the search. Reading other reviews we knew we couldn't be disappointed, & we weren't! Service was exceptional-our server was down to earth & funny, cheese pizza was absolutely delicious, garlic bread was so garlicky, buttery & crispy. It's upstairs so you get a good view of the street & people watching. It's bring your own booze, which we didn't take advantage of- but we're here for the rest of the week & probably will!! It's a must to come here.
(5)Bonnie H.
Heard the pizza is good, and we were here in the shopping center already, so we are here to give it a try... Ordered a 14" pepperoni, meatball, and garlic (one topping per person). Service is nearly nonexistent, but attentive when present. Pizza was good, not great, but good. 3.5 stars, but that isn't allowed, so 3 stars because 4 is too many stars.
(3)Omid S.
This pizza was a food highlight of our trip. You have to wait a bit for your pizza so don't go starving. But it is well worth the wait. the Chef makes the dough fresh. A little tip, don't use googlemaps to locate it. It's not where it says it is in the little shopping plaza. Stay on the street and don't go in the plaza, it by the Thai place, up stairs. Not a fancy place, perfect for a lazy evening in flipflops and shorts after a day in the sun.
(5)Mane A.
Awesome!! Pure awesome!!! The Hawaiian pizza with ham, pineapples and crushed macadamia nuts....brilliant. Will return when I return
(4)Kelly O.
Just as others have said....cash only, bring your own drinks, and be prepared for some good pizza. We had the poi (sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, and black olives) and the Tiki j (blue cheese dressing, ham, chicken, feta, cilantro). Both were great right out of the oven- the tiki was less awesome as it cooled (the chicken was chewy and the blue cheese got a little off tasting). I liked the crispy crust. Our waitress said the idea for the tiki was modeled after chicken cordon bleu. It's nice to see some thought put into the flavors. Service was interesting. Our waitress was talkative at times, but mostly stared at us and said nothing. $44 for two 14" specialty pizzas seemed reasonable for Kona. It fulfilled our craving for pizza solidly!
(4)Lance O.
Great pizza, try "Tiki Js" special. Especially good seat when there are parades or events on Alii drive. You can ususally catch the owner in, making the pizzas daily. Bring your own beer though. When I check "outdoor seating" below, it feels outdoor, because the place is so open, you feel like your under a roof is all, not an enclosed feeling.
(5)Maggie L.
The pizza was so good here and at unbelievably cheap prices! -that is, relative to everything else in Kona. The Five-Oh was my favorite. If you like Hawaiian pizza, go for this one because it is basically a Hawaiian but kicked up a couple notches in awesome. We also got the BBQ chicken pizza. It was good, but a bit salty. The waiter boy called a 10in a personal pizza but my fiance and I got two 10in pizzas and we couldn't finish either one. As for waiter service, isn't much of one. If you want anything, you have to go up and ring the buzzer on wall. But they open until 9pm which is fantastic because our party of 4 walked in around 8:45pm and pizzas took about 20 to 30 minutes to come, yet they still served us! It is a bit hard to find this place- look for the sign that says Thai restaurant (see yelp photo) and just go up the stairs. It's right next to the Chinese restaurant upstairs.
(5)Elsebeth P.
Awesome pizza, great service! We had an 18" pizza with ham and pineapple (why not get a hawaiian pizza when we're on Hawaii?!) and it was really, really good! The dough was crispy all the way from the middle to the crust which I really like, and it just tasted delicious. We got served by a young boy, probably around 12-13 years old, which we thought was a little odd, but he did and exellent job! A guy next to us had a sub and we heard him say it was the best meal of his day, so I'm sure they taste good as well.
(5)Jesse M.
Thanks Yelp'ers for the recommendation for this little joint in Kona. Definitely easy to overlook on Alii drive (upstairs next to Thai restaurant). Very tasty pizzas and salads. It seems more tailored to takeout, but we enjoyed lunch to ourselves in the little terrace overlooking Alli drive. Pizza crust is homemade... Great crunch and nice crispness. It's BYOB. There is an ABC right down the road, so plan accordingly.
(4)Neal C.
An 18" pie for $18, in KONA! Nice! She made it fast, it was well made, tasted great! This was only my first time there, and basically got a simple 2-veggy pie. Not much to judge on, but its a humble venue with no pretentious ego. You get big, tasty pizza for a more than reasonable price in Kona! The dining room is upstars, open-air, across the street from Kope Lani (and to the left a bit) on the "correct" side of the street- that is, the sun won't bake and blind you! The fußball table is a nice touch! Get your growler filled at Kona Brew and BYOB at Mahina Pizza!
(5)James B.
Great antipasti salad and a sausage and olive pizza. Their crust is thin and crispy.
(4)Gail F.
Wow, BEST pizza ever! This was our first time here and I will never eat pizza anywhere else. Read Yelp reviews before we came and the positive reviews were all correct.
(5)Heidi B.
This place has been the highlight of our dining experience on the big island. After asking one of the shop owners downstairs where the place was, we were able to find it across from the Thai restaurant upstairs. Like others have said, you walk in and don't see anyone- but just call out and someone will come out from the back. We had the garlic cheese bread, I had a Caesar salad and my husband had the antipasto salad (which he raved about), and then we split a small pepperoni and sausage pizza. It was all delicious and we finished every bite! Highly recommend this place! Service was attentive and friendly. They don't serve alcohol here but have pop and iced tea, and you can also buy beer from the ABC store and bring it up to the restaurant if you want. Very reasonably priced too. Mahina's is a real gem!
(5)Raul R.
This is the restaurant that everyone in our group was happy with. The boys loved the pizza fixed their way. This place had two people waiting tables and working the kitchen. I have not seen two people put so much effort into making this an enjoyable dinning experience in a long time. Service is a bit slow, but not due to lack of effort. We called in our order, took a nice stroll over to the restaurant and still had time to buy a two litter soda. I am very pleased with the quality, quantity and price. We were there in the evening and it was a wonderful way to close out a busy day.
(4)Angela L.
Super good! We asked a local where they go for pizza and they led us here. Good thing or else we never would've found it. The BBQ is very tasty and so was the cheesy garlic bread. Def would come again!
(5)N N.
Great food! Very good and friendly service!! Reasonable prices!!! What more would you ask for? (If new, call their number to ask for exact location and directions.)
(5)Makayla A.
This place is great. The pizza is good and the service is great! We've eaten here a few times while on vacation here and we always love it. The antipasto salad is probably the best I've ever had, so I definitely recommend that. I also recommend the garlic cheesy bread because it's delicious too! This place is affordable and very yummy.
(4)Megan W.
I LOVE Mahina Pizza. The Antipasto salad is my favorite but everything is good. The Pizza, subs, calzones.....It's BYOB and a super chill place to eat. The price is on point too.
(5)Lisette S.
Pizza in Hawaii? Oh, yes! This little place was a great find. Not very busy when we arrived,so we were a little concerned. But, not to worry, our food server came out, took our order within 5 minutes of our arrival. It was a little hard to find though. The entry is upstairs directly off Alii Dr in the Kona Inn Shopping Center. While we waited for our pizza (which was amazing and topped with chopped Macadamia nuts!) we saw other patrons bring in their own beer. Cool idea. We left with our pizza and antipasto salad taking it back to our condo. Loved both pizza and antipasto and felt pretty lucky to find this gem.
(5)Mia A.
Love the pizza I'd suggest pineapple pizza and cheesy bread. tandi gave great service! They have a foosball table :)
(4)Megan F.
Mahina's pepperoni pizza was one of the best meals we had while in Kona...but we almost missed out. I walked into the second-floor restaurant and found it completely empty. Total ghost town. After waiting around for a server to show up and listening (in vain) for signs of life coming from the kitchen, I left. Honestly, I wasn't exactly exited about eating at a place with zero customers. However, my extremely hungry hubby wasn't so easily deterred. He went back upstairs and found a worker lounging on a couch area. Apparently, Mahina's stays in business due to take-out orders from locals. They know to "just yell in the back" & someone will bring the order up. Try the pizza, but order out & bring a megaphone.
(5)Vikki A.
We discovered this place 2 yrs ago and loved it now were back. Good food antipasto salad is great!!! Prices are reasonable.
(5)Thomas C.
the coolest thing about this place is the Bring Your Own Alcohol policy and a fridge to put it in! and the pizza was actually really good!
(4)Patty P.
Hard to find their sign was not up. Upstairs. Nice sweet waitress. We brought our own beer and the pizza was excellent. Small fed us just fine for 2. $13 Whatttttt??? Cheap and good! If they advertised more they would be sooo busy. Locals know about it.
(4)Mark D.
Went into here mostly because I was hungry, Rapanui was closed, I didn't want to walk much further and they were playing good music. The place seemed empty but it was just poorly arranged tables that left the main part of the restaurant wide open. Service was odd (you ring a doorbell for service) and they are cash only. However, the pizza was great! And very cheap for Kona. $9.75 for a very decent sized small pizza with one topping.
(4)Mitch T.
Had lunch here, at the recommendation from a co-worker. The place was empty, and no one was around to seat me. then I saw a sign, ring bell for service, which I did, and a lady came out and told me to sit where I wanted. I ordered a pizza, and although it took a while- freshly made- it was decent.
(3)Al A.
We really enjoyed the food and the service! It was also the most affordable meal we've had on our vacation here! A Costco sized pizza, a large antipasto salad, 8 sodas, and garlic bread was only $39. I would definitely recommend eating here.
(4)Melinda J.
This place was extremely hard to find--it didn't have a sign. It is upstairs across from a Thai restaurant. My husband and I had to search for this place and it was totally deserted when we got there. We rang a bell and someone came out, finally. Other than that, we were totally pleased with our caesar salad and pizza! The pizza had a nice, thin, crispy crust. This is a BYOB place but we were getting soda anyways and they had cans for sale. Also, it is cash only, but we read yelp reviews beforehand so we knew this going in.
(4)Whitney M.
Bring your own beverage. Pick some up at the ABC store down the street. The antipastos salad is good and the half is big enough to share as an app. And the pizza is pretty good. Yum!
(4)Chelsie H.
Love! The place is kinda hard to find! We went their from yelp and when we walked in we were a little concerned because it was empty.... But we decided to just try it and we were happy we did! The pizza was amazing! I wish they had staff out (you have to ring a bell for service) but its worth it! Don't be discouraged by the lack of people or the service the food it worth it!
(5)Steve S.
The most excellent idea Bring your own beverage, ABC for a beer and then up the stairs for some good pizza. They have can soda and ice tea. Hey don't be in a big hurry, if it is super busy. This is not some name brand super store of pizza. This is mom and pop, it is hand made and Worth it for sure!
(5)Jenna W.
great pizza, good sauce & delicious house salad dressing. $20 for a salad and medium pizza and byob - hard to beat that. & free foosball.
(4)Maria M.
Loved this place fresh anti pasta salad best pizza
(5)Christina H.
good price for the Island. Good pizza, even better price. Absolutely the cheapest dinner we had eating out. I just love the laid back owners who suggested we bring soda, wine, or beer if we wish. We ordered the vegetarian pizza and salad. Delicious!
(4)Susan P.
Yummy salad and pizza. A nice and simple dinner after a busy day.
(5)Clinton W.
Extremely good and delicious pizza, I can't even afford to stop eating a slice of it. Their pizza is outstanding.
(4)Mike M.
Good lunch atmosphere, pizza good, cash only
